Papageno Resort

The resort is aimed primarily at cultural travellers and scuba divers and prides itself on its organic gardens and home style atmosphere.

The main plantation house offers several screened sitting rooms, a sunny dining room which overlooks the water, a small library, and a bar with a cozy lounge for drinks and sunset gatherings.

Papageno has a picturesque beach although the lagoon is shallow at low tide.

Non motorised water activities are free of charge and daily diving trips to the Astrolabe Reef can be arranged.

The resort offers excellent diving with some excellent dive sites offshore as well as access to the world acclaimed soft corals of the Astrolabe Reef. Diving is offered on one of four boats including a new 28ft specialist dive boat; the resort has new Scubapro BCDS, REGs and gear.

Apart from diving, game fishing is excellent, there are lots of soft adventure activities and cultural appreciation is encouraged - Kadavu is home to several endemic species and the rare Kadavu Shining Parrots are commonly seen in the gardens.

Dining

All meals are included in our room rates and are served family-style three times a day. In between meals, coffee and tea is served with freshly baked cakes, buns and cookies. Vegetarian diets are also available.

Diving

The Great Astrolabe Reef that encircles Kadavu is the third largest barrier reef in the world. This makes Kadavu one of the best places to seek out Manta Rays, soft corals, Moray Eels, schools of Blue Tang and Barracuda to name but a few of the wonderful creatures that inhabit our seas.

Individual or group dives are conducted with PADI certified Dive Masters and Instructors. Papageno is a fully certified PADI dive resort and all PADI dive courses are available at competitive prices.

Other activities

Papageno is located in a secluded bay that makes it an ideal place for snorkelling, sea kayaking and swimming. There are plenty of reefs, bays, and mangrove forests to explore and kayaks are available free-of-charge.

Surfing
There is a world-renowned surf break only an hour away by powerboat at the tip of Kadavu. The waves are punchy with beginner to advanced breaks, the backdrop is spectacular with an ancient volcano looming overhead (where they filmed the original King Kong) and the best part - you aren't shoulder to shoulder with other surfies. This is an ideal place to surf and will offer an adrenaline filled day. This is a full day trip.

Fishing
Game fishing is available throughout the year at Papageno for the novice to the expert with a wide variety fish to be caught. Try your luck. Test your strength. Cast your line for yellow fin tuna, barracuda, walu, mahi mahi...

And...
We also offer village and school visits, hiking that takes you to remote beaches and waterfalls, and for the naturalist, Papageno is a masterpiece of nature from lush vegetation and four endemic bird species to the coral reefs right off our shores.

Location
Upon arrival in Nadi, Fiji a short flight takes you to Kadavu whereupon we whisk you on a 20 minute powerboat ride along turquoise seas to our island paradise.

Papageno Resort Room Information.

There is a variety of bures and room types to choose from.

All rooms have ensuite wash rooms and ceiling fans and are elegantly appointed with the finest of furnishings, wall hangings and tapa cloth.

Grass mats accent the polished hardwood floors and large screened windows with wooden louvres give guests full access to expansive ocean views and floral scented breezes.

GARDEN VILLA

Our Garden Villa is a unique private Bure, placed in a beautiful garden setting, with a wounderful ocean view.

It is elegantly appointed with a large private bath and shower combination.

It has large living quarters with a living room and seperate bedroom.

GARDEN ROOMS

Our Garden Rooms are located approximently 125 yards inland and each room shares a wall and a front porch with it's neighbour. The rooms have generous ensuite bathrooms.

They are located near the feeding area of the Shining Parrots (which are not found anywhere else in the world).

The Garden Rooms are designed with two rooms intended for couples and two larger rooms intended for families or groups (such as dive clubs).

Electrical power is available for your convenience (AC,not merely DC) 24 hours a day.

DELUXE OCEAN BURE

All of our Deluxe Bures are built within a few dozen feet off our amazing white sand beach. Each are surrounded by exotic flowers and jungle plants. Every morning you will be awakened by an orchastra of bird songs.

Each Bure has an ensuite washroom with hot and cold (drinkable) running water pumped from a spring high in the hills above the resort.

Each also has a leak-proof roof covered with traditional thatching to cool the inside under a tropical sun. Stylish furniture, smooth wooden floors and Fijian decoration complete each bure.

Electrical power is available for your convenience (AC,not merely DC ) 24-hours a day.

Surrounded as they are by plants and trees, each Ocean Bure provides considerable privacy.

DELUXE OCEAN ROYAL BURE

The Royal Bure is a luxury traditional ocean view Bure with all elegant modern furnishings; inside the main structure it has three luxury bed rooms, as well as its own kitchen and dining room. It also has a single room as well.

This Bure is ideal for families, Groups, Conferences, and Executives wishing exclusive private facilities.
