Set on a 240-acre private Fiji island, Matangi Private Island Resort offers gorgeous beaches, tropical rain forest and some of the world's best scuba diving sites.
This small luxury Fiji resort offers individual beachfront and ocean view bungalows, all handcrafted from local materials, one villa plus three Tree House Bures overlooking the beach and ocean.
There are no televisions, telephones or air-conditioning to retain an uncluttered atmosphere free of modern distractions, although telephone and email services are available from our reception.
You won't be bothered by any motorised vehicles other than a small tractor, which is used occasionally by our garden keepers. Matangi offers a truly relaxing and peaceful atmosphere.
Fresh drinking water on the island is provided free of charge at all times, and your bure is stocked daily. The tap water is not of drinking quality.
Dining
Matangi's kitchen serves a variety of styles of cuisine. Meals include an array of fresh fish and seafood caught by local fishermen, imported meats, green salads, locally grown fresh vegetables, tropical fruit from our gardens, freshly baked bread and sumptuous desserts. A large selection of world class Australian and New Zealand wines and champagnes are available to accompany any of our fine meals.
Meals are served from the resort?s dining bure with its large wooden deck sitting right over the water. Alternatively you can arrange a private dinner under the stars on the beach. Room service is also available during normal meal times.
The traditional Fijian Lali drum announces the commencement of all meals. The local string band will sing for you some evenings around the Kava bowl. There will also be traditional dancing called a "meke" from local villagers at least once a week.
Special dietary needs are catered for with advance notice. Children under the age of 12 are required to have their evening meals prior to the adults.

Getting There
Matangi's neighbour, Taveuni Island, is serviced by two Fiji airlines, Sun Air and Air Fiji, with regularly scheduled flights from Nadi and Suva, the two major international airports in Fiji. Both Fiji airlines operate daily services with a flight time of approximately ninety minutes from Nadi. Domestic Fiji air flights are a grand opportunity to view the majestic islands of Fiji, and see the extensive coral reef systems surrounding them. You may want to have your camera handy for a few aerial photos.
Domestic Fiji flights can be coordinated with international flights and can be arranged through Matangi Private Island Resort or your travel agent. We coordinate transfers from the Matei airport on Taveuni Island to Matangi Island.
A mini-bus will meet you at the Taveuni airport, and will take you on a scenic, 20-minute drive to the boat landing, where one of our boats will meet you. This is a wet landing, so please be prepared to wade to the boat. The water taxi takes about 20 minutes to get to the resort.
