Toberua Island

Located off the East Coast of Viti Levu, one hour away from the Fijiian capital of Suva, Toberua Island is like nowhere else on earth.

Stepping on to the white, sandy beach of Toberua (pronounced Tom-berua), you immediately find yourself in a totally new world. Just 4 acres when the tide is in, around 20 when it retires twice a day.

Toberua luxury resort offers the discerning guest complete relaxation and a staff ratio of at least two to one ensuring the guests every need is taken care of.

The pool at Toberua is a treated salt water pool. Sit poolside and read your book while the barman keeps you refreshed with your favourite cocktail. And you can use the pool to learn to scuba dive, our PADI instructor is always keen to assist.

DINING 

Specialties include island cuisine, seafood fresh from the ocean and continental dishes supplemented by a selection of locally grown tropical fruits and organic vegetables from our own gardens. There is a full bar service with a wide selection of Australian, New Zealand and California wines.

Meals are usually eaten outside, especially in the evenings, when they are taken under the stars. You'll hear the beating of the lali (Fijian drum) when the chef is ready to tempt you to our island cooking. Complimentary morning and afternoon tea is also served outside the bar, fresh fruit is available throughout the day from the dining room. Waitresses will bring you the menu wherever you are to take your lunch and dinner orders.

Your thirst is nonchalantly satisfied by virtually any cocktail you care to name as well as a suitably appetizing variety of beer, wines, aperitifs, spirits and liqueurs - even if you happen to be wading in the pool or sitting on the beach!

• Scuba Diving - Toberua has its own resident PADI Dive Instructor and we are able to offer a full range of courses. We can also arrange for the necessary equipment for currently certified divers.
• Fishing (complimentary) Tackle and lines are available at the marina and an experienced fisherman will accompany you almost any time you feel like it.
• Game Fishing (charge) Weather permitting we go outside the reef in search of a variety of game fish.
• Golf - The Toberua golf course is a 9 hole par three playable only at low tide. The longest hole is 180 metres - the shortest measuring in at 90 metres. A wedge or a sand wedge is provided which will be used for driving, chipping and putting. Holes are a six inch diameter circle drawn in the sand.
• Sailing (complimentary) - Both Hobie Cat and Windsurfing are available for your use. Our experienced boatmen will ony be too happy to assist you during high tide.
• Paddle Boats  - You'll find the boats and their paddles on the beach.
• Glass-bottom boat -  If you'd rather just relax and enjoy the ride, journeys by our glass-bottom boat are offered to view the coral reefs and colorful fish.
• Visit a neighbouring village - The Village trip is a special way to view real Fijian life.

Enjoy some time with our staff who will involve you in various activities from traditional basket and hat weaving, to the many uses of the humble coconut, to hearing about Fijian legends. You'll find the staff to be very special people, proud of Toberua island and Fiji and always happy to talk with you about their way of life in their wonderful country.

Getting There

There are daily services between Nadi and Nausori (Suva) enabling guests to transfer directly to the island without over-nighting in Nadi.

From Nausori (Suva) airport you will be collected by your friendly and smiling taxi driver for the short and interesting journey through Fijian countryside to Nakelo Landing; here the Toberua Island launch will be waiting to speed you down the Navaloa River, past Fijian villages and waving children, traditional and intriguing fish traps - then out to sea for the last leg of your journey and arrival at Toberua

Toberua Island Room Information.

To maintain your privacy, there are only 15 bures on the island.

The bures are extremely comfortable for two people; very comfortable indeed for a small family.

Each bure is set right on the water's edge.

Paradoxically, in addition to offering you all modern conveniences including electricity, en-suite, refrigerator and round-the-clock hot water, your bure has been constructed in the traditional Fijian "Chiefly" style.

This manner of building dates back many centuries and has survived through the passing on of the many craft skills involved from family to family, father to son.

As you cross the patio and enter your "island home" you will be impressed by the height of the ceiling, soaring 27 feet above you.

 The high rooves in the bures are traditional and offer cool fan assisted un-refrigerated air to ensure you are always comfortable.

All ensuites include an outside private courtyard.

We have three types of bures on Toberua. All are oceanfront.

Standard Beachfront Bure

The Standard Beachfront Bure will have a queensize bed, and one or two single beds an indoor outdoor en-suite, tea and coffee making facilities and a mini bar fridge.

The large sundecks have the appropriate lounging furniture and you will find a hammock strung up in the trees beside you.

All rooms have electronic safes.

Deluxe Bures

The Deluxe Bures are all Oceanfront and have a queensize bed and up to three singles.

Rollaways are also available.

All the above amentities are included.

Premium Bures

The Premium Bures contain one kingsize bed, some a single as well, along with the above amenities and are situated on the main swimming beach.

Toberua Island
