Fiji Weather
The most popular time for visiting Fiji Islands is the 'winter' or 'dry' season between May and November.  The weather is still warm but not as humid as the 'summer' season which can get to 35°C during the period of December to April. This also the period in which most of the rainfall occurs. The 'summer' season does have it's advantages with the flora in full bloom during this time. The prevailing winds are from the east southeast and bring year long cooling breezes late afternoon and early evening.

Whilst there is a heavy indian influence in the culinary delights there is a wide cross section of taste brough about by the wide cultual mix of Fiji. Most resorts pride themselves in the quality and freshness of their food. Seafood is naturally prominant on the menu along with pork beef and chicken. When dining tipping is not generally encouraged but you may feel that good service should not go unrewarded.

Health
Fiji is free from malaria, yellow fever and major tropical diseases that are normally found in tropical countries. At most resorts the water is safe to drink from the tap, however always check first. To learn more of the vaccinations needed please consult your doctor for the latest information.

Language
English is the official language and is spoken all over Fiji. Virtually all Fijians are bilingual as they still use the native Fijian language as well.

Shopping
Whether shopping or just browsing, here's your opportunity to become acquainted with some of the savviest Fijians as well the best barterers around. In Fiji, you'll discover unique cultural and historical artefacts, stylish international boutique fashions as well as budget gift and souvenir shops. Most stores are open 8am to 5pm or 6pm, sometimes later at hotels and resorts. Most stores are closed on Sundays. All of your major credit cards are widely accepted.

Credit Cards
Major credit cards are accepted by most business in Fiji with Visa and Mastercar being the most popular.

Driving and getting around
Driving occurs on the left-hand side of the road. Some roads are on the narrow side and care should be excercised if you are driving as there can be the occasional animal on the road. Car hire is generally expensive in comparison to the other expenses in Fiji and this is mainly due to the very high import duty on cars.

Wildlife
Australians are advised to respect wildlife laws and to maintain a safe and legal distance when observing wildlife, including marine animals and birds. You should only use reputable and professional guides or tour operators and closely follow park regulations and wardens' advice.
